The 10 Best Tunes of the Week | 2024 Week 19

With so much new music coming out each and every day, it can be hard to listen to everything, but we'll be damned if we don't try. Here are our favourite tunes from the week that was from the likes of Ben Hauke, Don Glori, Fcukers, Gloam, Indigo Blaze, Koreless, Milan Ring, Pincer+, Sly Withers and The Buoys!

Ben Hauke - IS STILL feat. Jadasea

With his debut album out in June, South London producer and musician Ben Hauke teams up with MC Jadasea for a deep, emotional cut of broken beat infused two step, pairing subby basslines with skipping percussion and tasteful keys. Ben Hauke’s new album CLUB CUTE is out June 21 via Touching Bass.

Don Glori - All Seeds

Melbourne-raised, London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Don Glori delivered the latest taste of his forthcoming album, this time channelling Brazilian street soul & samba influences on this majestic, uplifting cut of dance-influenced jazz-funk. Don Glori’s new album Don’t Forget To Have Fun is out June 7 via DeepMatter Records.

Fcukers - Bon Bon

B.O.T.W. right here!! (That means Banger of the Week, no it’s not a real designation but yes, this is the B.O.T.W.) NYC indie dance trio Fcukers celebrate signing to Ninja Tune imprint Technicolor with an altogether too fun new cut of four to the floor sounds, fusing a deep, wobbly bassline and drums with a relentless groove alongside Shanny Wise’s irresistible vocals and some fantastic production constantly upping the ante and energy. Out now via Technicolour.

Gloam - Hinder

West Aussie heavy shoegazers Gloam blend ethereal ambient soundscapes with driving guitars and a pummeling rhythm section on new single Hinder that thematically delves “into the intricate dynamics of clinging onto discomfort out of fear, Hinder reflects a struggle with self assurance that ultimately, and aptly, hinders the ability to voice ones truth openly and move towards personal growth and empowerment.”

Indigo Blaze - CRITICAL HIT

Koreless - Seven

For over a decade now, British electronic producer and artist Lewis Roberts has been crafting some of the more interesting sounds from the electronic underground and this week returned after his 2021 debut LP Agor with experimental new dancefloor cut, Seven. Coming in hot out the gates, Seven features an interesting arrangement with an extended beatless segment in the middle, before everything kicks back in harder than ever.

Milan Ring - High as the Moon

The final single lifted from her second studio album, ahead of the release of Mangos, celebrated  Eora/Sydney R&B musician, producer and engineer delivers a jazzy, trappy, bass heavy cut of exploratory r&b, featuring some tasty guitar licks alongside Milan Ring’s entrancing vocals. Milan Ring’s new album Mangoes is out now via Astral People Recordings.

Pincer+ - Pulling Strings

Boorloo/Perth hardcore quintet puts toxic manipulators in their sights on this new cut of viciously heavy sounds, taking aim at the all too familiar scenario of people who claim to be the victim after actually inciting the incident and bringing things on themselves, resulting in a beautifully cathartic listen from start to finish. Out now via Greyscale Records.

Sly Withers - Everything

Nearly two years on from their acclaimed Overgrown album, local faves Sly Withers return with a tender and triumphant cut of acoustic guitar driven emotional indie pop, with the band saying farewell to longtime drummer Joel Neubecker and announcing a national tour during June and July, before jumping on to support Stand Atlantic at a run of shows. Out now via Dew Process.

The Buoys - Check Mate

Hooooooo…. Buoy! The news a lot of people have been waiting for arrived this week, as Eora/Sydney indie rock faves The Buoys announced their long awaited debut album with a groovy, moody slice of alt-rock, with Check Mate co-written by the one and only Alex Lahey. The Buoy’s new album Lustre is out July 12 via Arcadia / Sony.
