Slender Man movie officially in the works

Slender Man, the long limbed, featureless prick that's haunted us online for the past seven years has just landed his own movie. If you're not familiar with Slender Man, he's an abnormally tall, suit-wearing fellow; with long, tentacle-like arms and no face. Oh, and he's famous for stalking, traumatising and abducting/murdering children. In short; he was scary enough on the internet and there was no need to take it any further, but of course somebody is. Production companies Screen Gems and Mythology Entertainment are reportedly set to work together on the Slender Man movie after Mythology earned the rights to the name. Production is due to start later this year, with the film set for release in 2017. Fantastic.

Slender Man, or Slendy as he's affectionately known, has become an internet hit since its creation by Eric Knudsen in 2009, with people both fascinated and horrified by the mystery surrounding the lanky, murderous monstrosity. Perhaps most terrifyingly, the Slender Man myth has been linked to several shocking, real life crimes in recent years. In 2014 a pair of 12-year-old girls in Wisconsin stabbed a classmate 19 times before explaining to authorities that the attempted murder was a tribute to Slender Man. Later that year, a 14-year-old girl in Florida set her family home on fire with her mum and nine-year-old brother inside after reading stories about Slendy. So, while we're sure some sick people will enjoy being scared shitless by this faceless, child-stealing creep, it's safe to say we'll be greeting the Slender Man movie with a resounding 'nope'.
