A lot can happen in a year and a half - just ask Clay Western, who since releasing his last single, Nothing Lasts, in late 2022 has relocated from Boorloo to Eora and started his new musical era, the first sounds of which is new single Last Night - out February 29 but premiering on Pilerats today.

Upbeat yet melancholic, energetic yet stripped back, Last Night features some tasty lofi production courtesy of Nathan Hawes (Lazywax/Kesmar) as Western’s filtered vocals deliver a wistful tale of unrequited love, building to big, driving choruses.

Last Night marks the start of Western’s next chapter, the first in a string of forthcoming singles ahead of a new full length album, also produced by Hawes and featuring collaborations with Jordi Davieson and Josh Biondillo from San Cisco. An exploration of maturity and honesty, the album draws inspiration from “late nights, love, and the dramatic shift from running on country time to the chaos of urban life in Sydney”. National tours are also on the horizon.
